Celebration Theatre in Santa Monica is showcasing “The Women of Brewster Place” Thursday-Saturday at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 3 p.m. The musical features an ensemble cast who perform as seven women living in an urban housing project in the early 1970s.
Debuting in 2007 as a critically acclaimed co-production between Alliance Theatre in Atlanta and Arena Stage in Washington D.C., the show is based on the award-winning book by African-American novelist Gloria Naylor, and offers a unique blend of gospel, soul, R&B and old school funk.
