Family as the primary source of strength

This week our Ultimate Transformation Moment delves into a concept that is often discussed, but has changed over time. That concept is family as the primary source of strength.

The primary definition of family is the social unit, which consists of a father, mother (parents) and children. Well, we all know that this is not necessarily the configuration of all family units. A family may take on various characteristics. However, it is basically, anyone in a community, such as an adult, who is willing to take on the responsibility of planning, teaching, acting, moving and providing support for those within the household.

Today, let us recommit to setting family values. Family values are put in place to communicate an idea, and create an expectation and a set of standards for the people who live within the unit/home.

We find ourselves living in a time when society allows the media to portray bleak outcomes, or highlight the most dire situations in life, on a very regular basis. The heightened sensationalism of doom and gloom eventually causes us to expect increasingly more awful situations on the horizon.

While there are certainly negative occurrences, we have the ability to control some of the negative transmissions. Focus on your family concept, such as love, peace and respect. These family values provide a foundation for the spiritual self. When you believe in a higher power and have faith in the higher power, then you are more likely to move and act from your own personal place. Your positive and powerful beliefs cannot coexist with the likes of gloom, doom and negativity.

A parent may decide, “There will be no watching television during the week; only on the weekends. Everyone will cook together, then eat a meal together.” The parent may make education a priority. A mandate to sit down for 30 minutes each day to read may be set. A family member may have an idea to start a business and discuss the idea with the family prior to moving on it.

The head of the home may be a single parent, a grandparent, or a combination of various adults who come together in the community. A family is a village, and family values are communicated every day, and every hour, by the example that is set by the head(s) of the household. However, once a plan is expressed, an expectation is set, and negative outside influences are reduced.

Our Ultimate Transformation Moment is a cry out to adults to create the family values in your environment. Create a plan. Set expectations and then do everything in your power to live up to them. When we set the expectations within our home, it makes it much tougher for others to set them outside of the home. When we strengthen our families, we are all better. Our communities are better, and hopefully, the world can become better. It begins with us.

That’s our Ultimate Transformations Moment. Peace and be more.
