Powerful communication

In this week’s Ultimate Transformation Moment, we take a close look at what it means to have effective communication.

Effective communication is powerful and it is particularly important to have between you and members of your home.

What does it mean to have powerful communication skills? It means that you utilize communication skills, which include the expression of your intention both verbally as well as non-verbally.

Here is an interesting fact; only 7 percent of what we communicate to others is in the form of words. The majority of our communication breaks down as follows:
1) 38 percent is in the tone of your voice, or how you say the words and the emotional state you are in; and 2) 55 percent is displayed in your body language, or, what you’re doing while you’re talking.

With this information in mind, I’d like to share a few ways to help you become an effective communicator as both the listener and the talker.

First, as the listener–the person on the receiving end of what is being communicated–you must listen intently. Listen as though the person who is speaking to you holds the keys to life. Maintain eye contact and ask questions, if you need clarification. This allows the listener to build trust. The speaker will feel that their words are valued, and the focused attention on that person makes them feel secure enough to continue.

Next, as the talker, you must be very specific in your choice of words. Try not to be vague, but rather, be impeccably clear in what you say. As you’re speaking, clarify your statements. Frequently ask the listener, “Do you understand?”

Keep a positive atmosphere during communication and speak calmly. Use only those emotions that will keep the communication positive.

Positive communication helps institutions grow. Let’s practice positive, powerful communication not only with the people in our family, but also with those in our community.

That’s our Ultimate Transformations Moment. Peace and be more.
