Former champions skates in L.A. fundraiser

Figure skating champion Derrick Delmore is among the athletes who will participate in the fundraiser “An Evening on Ice” presented by the U.S. Athletic Foundation and the Los Angeles Ice Theater August 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the Pickwick Ice Center in Burbank, Calif. Delmore began skating at age 8 and at age 20 he won the 1998 World Junior Champion and the 1999 U.S. National Collegiate Champion in the senior men’s division. He attended Stanford University where he double majored in psychology and communications; he was also a nationally recognized athlete at the university and was named to the 1996 U.S. Figure Skating Scholastic Honors team. The 32-year-old athlete competed in singles figure skating for nearly his entire career, then switched to pairs toward the last years. He retired from singles in 2008. Today he is coaching and skating in various shows.
