With the Feb. 15 deadline for open enrollment in Covered California fast approaching, teams from Dakota Communications were on the campus of Los Angeles City College this week, as well as other campuses in the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD), to guide young adults toward opportunities for affordable health insurance coverage through the state healthcare exchange and help enroll them in carefully-selected plans. Experts say that young people, and communities of color, are too often least likely to take advantage of  these vital resources made possible by the Affordable Care Act.

The efforts were part of Cover LACCD Week. Said Scott Svonkin, President of the LACCD Board of Trustees: “I want to make sure our students and their families have the opportunity to obtain affordable health insurance. We know that people who have insurance are more likely to receive preventative care, and receiving preventative care is important for everyone — young and old alike — because it can mean the difference between life and death.”
