Assemblyman David Hadley, R-Torrance, pictured with principal Judy Manyweather, recently joined the Barona Band of Mission Indians to award Denker Elementary School in Gardena with the Barona Education Grant. The grant provides $5,000 towards the purchase of new computers for the school’s technology lab.

“When the Barona Mission Indians committed to support a public school in the South Bay with an education grant, my office and I sought and received a number of applications from our local schools,” said Assemblyman Hadley. “We got some strong applications, but we were most impressed with Denker Elementary School and are so pleased to be able to award this grant on behalf of Barona.”

At Denker Elementary School, which is located at 1620 W. 162nd St., the technology lab is open every day of the school year. A rotating schedule allows teachers and students to use the lab on a weekly basis and it is made available to their after-school program students and parents for evening classes.

“We are so honored and grateful to accept this generous grant for upgrading our technology lab with new iMac computers,” said Principal Manyweather. “On behalf of all of the students at Denker Elementary School, I would like to thank the Barona Band of Mission Indians for awarding us this grant and Assemblyman David Hadley for nominating us.”

Assemblyman David Hadley represents the 66th Assembly District, which includes the South Bay communities of Gardena, Torrance, Lomita, the Palos Verdes Peninsula, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, and portions of Los Angeles.
