L-A police are hoping a series of overnight raids and arrests will put a
dent in the flow of drugs to Skid Row. Investigators served a series of
warrants and arrested 16 people … and they seized nearly 2-million-dollars in
currency and large amounts of cocaine. Among those in custody is a Cerritos man
investigators suspect is one of the leaders of a drug ring funneling various
types of narcotics so Skid Row.
Donald Trump will bring his presidential campaign to Orange County
tomorrow. Fresh off victories in five Republican primary elections … Trump is
scheduled to attend a rally at the Pacific Amphitheatre in Costa Mesa tomorrow
night. His visit comes after a violent clash between his supporters and
opponents in Anaheim last night … when the City Council delayed a vote on a
resolution condemning Trump’s politics.
Hawthorne-based aerospace company Space-X is going to Mars. The company
has announced plans to send one of its Dragon spaceships to the Red Planet as
soon as 2-thousand-18. The mission is billed as a test flight that will
demonstrate technology needed to land large payloads on Mars … something
that’ll be needed prior to sending manned missions to the planet.
New York real estate scion Robert Durst … who is facing a murder
charge in Los Angeles for allegedly killing a friend 16 years ago … has been
sentenced to seven years in federal prison for a Louisiana gun case. He’s
expected to be sent to the prison on Terminal Island to serve his time while
awaiting trial on the murder charge.
Willie Williams … who became the first black chief of the L-A-P-D
following the 19-92 L-A riots … has died at age 72. Williams took over the
department following the resignation of Chief Daryl Gates … whose tenure was
marred by the Rodney King beating and subsequent clashes with City Hall.
Williams was also the first black leader of the Philadelphia Police Department.
Thousands of people have descended on the L-A Convention Center in hopes
of getting some free medical care. A three-day clinic is under way …
