MOAH:CEDAR will begin an exhibition tomorrow evening featuring artwork created by members of Lakes and Valleys Art Guild. The opening will include a public reception from 6 to 8 p.m.

The exhibition, open Saturdays and continuing through Sept. 7, will include regional drawings in pastel and graphite, as well as plein air paintings (a French term often used to describe the act of painting outdoors) in oil, watercolor, and acrylic mediums.

The Lakes and Valleys Art Guild, founded in 2003, is a nonprofit organization that works to provide local  artists with mutual support as well as venues to display their work. Over the years, the guild has grown to an average annual membership of nearly 100 persons, including professional artists, who work together to further the region’s artistic community. Each summer, members have helped to support the Fine Arts section of the Antelope Valley  Fair by working with staff to monitor and sell art to benefit a scholarship fund. This year the guild has awarded three young artists with more than $1,200 toward their future education.

Each September, the guild draws visitors from throughout Southern California for its annual fundraiser and art auction, which offers attendees an opportunity to bid on original works by some of the Antelope Valley’s premier artists.

Individual membership in the guild is $36, $48 for a couple or two family members, and $12 for art students.

MOAH:CEDAR, 665 W. Lancaster Blvd., is open from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. For more details, visit wwwlakesandvalleysartguild.org, or call (661) 724-1312. You may subscribe to the monthly newsletter, the ARTiculator, by e-mail at lakesandvalleysag@gmail.com.
