Several news sources, including USA Today and People are reporting that Paula Abdul’s father has passed just a year after her mother died. Abdul is mourning the death of her father, Harry Abdul, following his battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
The former singer and “American Idol” judge, 56, confirmed her father’s death in a series of Tweets on Wednesday, writing, “My father was, and always will be, my superhero.” Everyone loved my father. He had a heart of gold and carried his heart on his sleeve wherever he went, and shared it with everyone he came in contact with.” She also included a video of her kissing her dad on the cheek. “Isn’t it a beautiful gift that I still feel his spirit with me?”
In another Tweet, the singer and dancer thanked everyone for their “”heartfelt condolences. Your love and support is comforting me during this difficult time. She shared several more snapshots with her dad and family. Abdul has been an advocate for Alzheimer’s research, joining forces with the Brain Health Registry in 2016 to help fight the disease and find a cure. She has also raised awareness by sharing her personal experience with Alzheimer’s. Abdul’s mother, Lorraine, passed in January 2018 at age 86. Paula’s father was 85.
