The man who has confessed to more than 80 murders—and considered by the FBI to be the nation’s most prolific serial killer—sits in a Lancaster jail.
In a news release issued on Oct. 6, the FBI confirmed that Samuel Little, 79, has confessed to 93 murders. The FBI’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Program (VCAP) confirmed that Little has been matched to 50 cases, with 43 confessions pending confirmation. The FBI has asked for the public’s assistance in verifying the remaining cases.
Investigators have provided new information and details about five cases in Florida, Arkansas, Nevada and in Louisiana. A drawing made by Little and distributed by the FBI purports to show the woman he said he killed in 1984 near Fort Myers, Fla. One of the 43 unconfirmed cases is linked to information Fort Myers police said they received in 2018 from the Texas Rangers.
In 2012, Little was arrested at a homeless shelter in Louisville, Ky., and extradited to California. The Los Angeles Police Department obtained DNA that connected Little to three unsolved homicides that occurred between 1987 and 1989. In 2013, the LAPD notified the VACP which, in turn, began a full background investigation and discovered that Little had been linked to many more murders.
Little has since been officially charged with three counts of murder and was sentenced in 2014 to three consecutive life terms without parole. While incarcerated, Little has reportedly drawn pictures of most of the women he has murdered.
