The city of Carson recently received multiple environmental leadership recognitions for its environmental stewardship.

The Gold Level Beacon Award, Platinum Level Spotlight Award in Energy Savings and a Gold Level Spotlight Award in Sustainability Best Practices were presented to Mayor Albert Robles and the City Council from the General Assembly at the League of California Cities.

“Building on the city’s commitment to environmental sustainability, the city of Carson has made a significant impact through our sustainability efforts to reduce green house gas emissions and this will ultimately greatly benefit future generations,“ said Carson Mayor Albert Robles.

The Beacon Award recognizes a holistic approach to addressing climate change. The Spotlight Award recognizes those cities and counties which complete the five elements necessary to achieve a Beacon award:

—  Agency greenhouse gas reductions

—  Agency electricity savings

—  Agency natural gas savings

—  Community greenhouse gas reduction

—  Activities in in the institute’s 10 sustainability best practice areas

The Beacon Program is sponsored by the Institute for Local Government and the Statewide Entergy Efficiency Collaborative, an alliance to help cities and counties reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save energy.

The program is funded in part by California utility ratepayers through the Public Goods Charge, levied under the auspices of the California Public Utilities Commission and administered by Pacific Gas and Electric Company, San Diego Gas and Electric Company, Southern California Edison and the Southern California Gas Company.
