Amid the COVID-19 pandemic and the need for safe community engagement and entertainment, Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas will host a showing of “Remember the Titans” at 7 p.m. tomorrow, at Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area. A final drive-in event will be held Oct. 3, featuring a Disney family favorite, “Moana,” at the newly revitalized Earvin “Magic” Johnson Park, 905 E. El Segundo Blvd, Los Angeles.

The series provides safe, socially-distanced community relief and diversion for families and individuals of all ages in the South Los Angeles area. At each event, guests can get their fill of free popcorn, candy, swag bags from sponsors, and more to enjoy with their movie.

Recently, the supervisor hosted a drive-in on Labor Day weekend, when families were welcomed to Exposition Park in the parking lot to view “Cool Runnings.” On Sept. 26, the Plaza hosted a screening of ‘Black Panther.’ in conjunction with community partners Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza, Chevrolet, Empowerment Congress West Area, and OZO™

“All too often children of color have little to no positive representation like themselves, on-screen. For many, ‘Black Panther’ is not just another film, it was a symbol for the black community and an inspiration to all,” said Supervisor Ridley Thomas.

“We are thrilled to host this wonderful and much-needed event for the community, and grateful to Ridley-Thomas for spearheading this effort,” said Rachel Freeman, President & Chief Executive Officer of Capri Retail Services. “During these trying times, we are here to support our community in whatever way we can, and are overjoyed to gather our community at BHC once again.”
