Boston’s new police commissioner has an interesting perspective on the job, considering he was once assaulted by police in Boston, reports CBS News.
Michael Cox was beaten by fellow officers, two of whom are still on the force, back in 1995 when he was mistaken for a suspect. Cox was actually a cop himself at the time, working in plainclothes.
None of the officers were ever charged. Despite the incident, Cox spent nearly three decades as a Boston cop, rising to the ranks of the highest uniform rank in the department. Cox actually won a civil rights lawsuit against the city, but it took until 2011 to get compensated.
On July 13, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu named former Boston Police Superintendent Cox to head the department starting in August.
