Grace United Methodist Church, 4112 W. Slauson Ave., is celebrating its 55th Homecoming during its 11 a.m. worship on Sunday July 2. The “Coming Home” event will also feature the installation celebration of the church’s new pastor, Rev. Kimberly Scott.
“We are looking forward to honoring the past, celebrating the present and preparing for the future,” said Ruby Cannon, Grace UMC Church Council Chair. “We are especially excited to welcome back our former pastor, Bishop Cedrick Bridgeforth, who will be team preaching with Rev. Scott.”
Bridgeforth is the Resident Bishop of the Greater Northwest Episcopal Area in the Western Jurisdiction of the United Methodist Church. The area encompasses the Alaska, Oregon-Idaho and Pacific Northwest conferences. He served as pastor at Grace UMC from 2018 to 2021.
A native of Decatur, Ala., Bridgeforth is a U.S. Air Force veteran who earned a Bachelor of Arts, Religion from Samford University; a Master of Divinity from the Claremont School of Theology; and a Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership from Pepperdine University.
Rev. Kimberly Scott is a second career pastor who retired from her school counseling career to answer her call to ministry in 2012. She holds a Master of Divinity degree from the Iliff School of Theology as well as a Master of Educational Leadership; a Master of Science in Educational Psychology; and a Master of Theology from Columbia Theological Seminary.
Scott was ordained the first African-American female elder in the Desert Southwest Conference in 2020.
