Special event Saturday in Leimert Park

Black Lives Matter is turning 10 years old. In recognition of the anniversary, a special event will take place in Leimert Park on Saturday, July 15, from noon to 6 p.m.

Entitled “A Movement, Not a Moment,” the event will spotlight the continuing quest to end “state-sanctioned murder” of African-Americans at the hands of law enforcement and governmental entities. There will be a reunion of activists, organizers, families and latter-day “freedom fighters” in an afternoon designed to both “build skills” and to “restore spirits.”

There will be performance art, dialogue with movement veterans, a children’s village, healing services and a number of artisans and food vendors.
