Registration is open for the City of Palmdale’s Lifeguard Academy, which is designed to prepare participants for the rewarding life saving job. Those who successfully complete the class will receive American Red Cross Lifeguarding certifications and are guaranteed an interview to become a City of Palmdale lifeguard.
The Academy will be held Oct. 11-25 on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. A final written exam will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 25.
A qualifying swim test will be held on Monday, Oct. 9 and Tuesday, Oct. 10 from 5 to 7 pm at Courson Park Pool. Participants must be able to swim a minimum of 100 yards (four laps) continuously, retrieve a weighted object from a minimum depth of five feet, and tread water for two minutes prior to the first day of the course. Participants unable to pass the swim test will be withdrawn from the class and the registration fee will be fully refunded.
