‘Secure Our World’

The City of Palmdale is partnering with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCSA) to launch a nationwide cybersecurity public awareness campaign themed “Secure Our World” to educate all Americans on how to stay safe online. Held in October, Cybersecurity Awareness Month encourages everyone to take increased ownership of enhanced online activity and the essential security practices that come along with it.

2023 marks the 20th annual Cybersecurity Awareness Month and this year CISA is launching a new awareness program to encourage four simple steps every American can take to stay safe online:

•  Enable multi-factor authentication: Multi-factor authentication (MFA) makes it extremely hard for hackers to access an individual’s online accounts, even if they know the password. Learn how easy it is to enable MFA wherever possible.

•  Recognize and report phishing: It’s important to stop and think before clicking on a link or attachment in a message. Learn how to spot the red flags to recognize and report a phish, an online attempt to trick consumers into opening harmful links, emails, or attachments that are used to infect devices or extract personal information.

•  Use strong passwords: Use strong passwords and ideally a password manager to generate and store unique passwords.

•  Update software: One of the easiest ways to keep information secure is to keep software and apps updated. Learn to step away from the “remind me later” button to stay one step ahead of cybercriminals.

These simple actions are easy to do during Cybersecurity Awareness Month and every day. Together, we can build a more secure digital world.?
