Come on out Saturday, Oct. 28

The City of Palmdale will host a Halloween-themed bicycle parade and safety event on Saturday, Oct. 28, at 10 a.m at Sam Yellen Park, 5100 East Avenue S.

Residents living near the recently installed buffered bike lanes on 55th Street East and Avenue R-8 are encouraged to attend. Participants or parents/guardians must sign a liability waiver form before joining the parade, and all riders under age 18 must wear a helmet. Staff will be at Yellen Park with waiver forms, treats for participants, and to provide ride safety tips. This free event is expected to last until noon.

Participants are invited to decorate their bikes and wear safe costumes for the ride. No masks, please. The bike parade will go from Yellen Park to Domenic Massari Park, 37716 55th St. East, and back, using the newly established bike lanes. At the four-way stop at 55th Street East and Avenue R-8, City staff will instruct riders on how to safely walk their bike through the intersection and hand out candy.

The City of Palmdale’s Sustainable Transportation Plan, adopted in June, identified buffered bike lanes as part of measures residents requested to make streets safer for pedestrians and bicyclists. The lanes connect Domenic Massari Park to Sam Yellen Park and the schools and neighborhoods along the route. Participants will be encouraged to give input about the future of these and other bike lanes planned for Palmdale.
