Continued fight against fentanyl

The City of Palmdale’s ‘s #FightFentanylAV Campaign hosted two Red Ribbon Week events in partnership with community stakeholders.

The kickoff event took place at Poncitlán Square with the closing ceremony taking place on The BLVD in Lancaster. Both events featured Narcan and hands-on CPR training, resources, vendors, games, food trucks, and more. Participants are encouraged to wear red.

The winners of the Multimedia Youth Challenge were announced at the kickoff event in Palmdale. Open to middle and high school students, the Challenge encouraged students to raise awareness about the dangers of fentanyl and to promote overdose prevention. Scholarships were awarded for video public service announcements, original song, artwork, and poetry, and the winning entries will be featured on both cities’ websites.

Red Ribbon Week, established by Congress in 1988 to encourage a drug-free lifestyle and involvement in drug prevention, was celebrated in communities nationwide during the week of Oct. 23-31. This year’s theme was “Be Kind To Your Mind. Live Drug Free.”

The #FightFentanylAV Campaign spreads awareness about fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid prescribed for pain that is also made and sold illegally, by providing essential information to prevent illicit use and overdose deaths.
