Join Grand Marshal Aundrae Russell on Dec. 9
On Dec. 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the City of Compton will present its 2023 Compton Christmas Parade. The parade route will commence at Compton Boulevard and Bullis Road with participants and viewers lining up and down Compton Boulevard through the end of the parade route at Alameda Street.
The Compton Christmas Parade has become a cherished tradition for the city, celebrating the joy and togetherness of the holiday season. This year, Compton has chosen “Around the World Holiday Celebration” as their theme celebrating the unique diversity of the city. Compton Unified School District High Schools, Long Beach Jordan High School, Inglewood High School, will be in attendance, as well as appearances by Compton Mania, Eric “Lil Eazy-E” Wright, drill teams, equestrian groups and more.
The grand marshals this year will be Steve Lacy and Aundrae Russell from Radio Free KJLH. Lacy, a Compton native, is an award-winning and Grammy-nominated musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer. As the co-host of the popular Radio Free KJLH morning show, Aundrae Russell is no stranger to the Compton community as he has been in radio for over 30 years as he has been a consistent advocate for positive change.
Several esteemed people will be in attendance, such as Mayor Emma Sharif and City Councilmembers Steve Lacy, Grammy-nominated music artist and Grand Marshal, Aundrae Russell, Congressmember Maxine Waters, Senator Steven Bradford, Assemblymember Mike Gipson, Compton College Board of Trustees, Supervisor Holly Mitchell and Eric “Lil Eazy-E” Wright.
Russell says, “It’s an honor. I was deeply honored and I feel privileged to be considered to be the Grand Marshal for the Compton Christmas Parade because it’s an affinity to Compton because of KJLH being licensed to Compton for years. Compton is very special to our community and to KJLH radio station. I’m tickled pink to be sitting in a convertible and waving at the crowd and I’m excited! I love Christmas– I am excited and honored to be a part of the Compton Christmas Parade celebration.”
