In time for the holidays

First AME Church of Los Angeles (FAME) is hosting its annual Christmas Giveaway from 9 a.m. to noon  on Dec. 16. The church is located at 2270 S. Harvard Blvd. Rev. Robert R. Shaw II is the newly appointed pastor of the First AME Church of Los Angeles as of Oct. 29.

FAME Church of Los Angeles is the oldest church founded by African-Americans in Los Angeles. The current congregation totals more than 19,000 people. Bishop Richard Allen in the early 1800s first laid the foundation for the church, FAME church considers it to be the “First to Serve.”

FAME’s goals as a church include aiming to be a prayer-empowered church, christ-centered church, a holy spirit-led church, ministry-directed church, faithful in stewardship, growth, and to be a socially active church.

“Our model at FAME is the first to serve,” Shaw said. “It is an honor and a blessing to give back to our community by providing much-needed clothing, food, toys and coats to hundreds of families in need this holiday season. We welcome the entire community to enjoy this day of fun, food and fellowship.”
