Former Virgin Galactic CEO
Former Virgin Galactic CEO George Whitesides pulled candidate nomination papers Friday for the 27th Congressional District in the March 5 presidential primary.
Whitesides, a Democrat, will try to unseat Republican Rep. Mike Garcia, who is running for a third term in Congress. Garcia filed his candidate nomination papers Friday, according to the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk.
Democrat Steve Hill filed his candidate nomination papers for the seat on Nov. 17.
The top two candidates from the March 5 primary will advance to the Nov. 5 general election.
As of Dec. 1, the race for the 34th Assembly District has two candidates: incumbent Republican Tom Lackey, who has represented the district since 2014, and Democratic challenger Ricardo Ortega, a Los Angeles County Youth Commissioner.
The 34th District covers Kern, Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties.
