Maintenace issue
The Compton Courthouse is expected to remain closed through at least Friday due to a weekend pipe burst that flooded many areas of the facility for the second time this year, court officials said today.
It was unclear when the building will reopen.
Court officials announced Monday that the weekend pipe break resulted “in a flood which has left the courthouse's public elevators, stairwells, jury room and much of the lobby inaccessible.''
“...The court is in the process of working with partners at the Judicial Council of California, who own and operate the facility, to assess the damage and obtain an estimate of when the courthouse will reopen.''
The building was closed for more than a week in early January following a similar pipe break.
Court hearings that had been scheduled in the building were being relocated to other facilities. People can also call (310) 761-4300 for case information.
Most criminal and traffic matters were being transferred to either the Long Beach Courthouse or the Metropolitan Courthouse or main Criminal Courts Building, both in downtown Los Angeles.
Family law matters were being moved to the Metropolitan Courthouse, while juvenile dependency matters were transferred to Monterey Park. Juvenile justice matters were being heard in Inglewood, while small claims matters and eviction cases were being heard in Bellflower.
