A man allegedly armed with a machete was shot and killed by deputies earlier this week at an Albertsons supermarket in Lancaster.

The shooting occurred about 9:30 a.m. in the 43500 block of 20th Street West, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

“The male adult suspect was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead,” the sheriff’s department said in a statement. “There is no additional information available at this time.”

Information on the man’s identity was not immediately available.

According to reports from the scene, the man was armed with a machete, and was shot by deputies after they tried to use less-lethal methods to take him into custody.
