New street sweeping schedule in Palmdale

Be aware of parking restrictions

Palmdale residents will need to keep vehicles off the street  twice a month as the city begins street sweeping parking enforcement.

No parking signs will be installed over the coming months notifying residents of parking restrictions to facilitate street sweeping efforts.

“Street sweeping enforcement is essential for the overall cleanliness and safety of our City,” Mayor Austin Bishop said in a press release. “By adopting these measures, which will now require residents to move their cars on street sweeping days, we are taking proactive steps to mitigate potential risks of flooding caused by accumulation of debris and other vegetation and to improve the quality of life for our community.”

Waste hauler WM is also contracted for street sweeping duties within Palmdale. Street sweeping will follow WM’s trash collection schedules and will be done twice each month on the first business day after a scheduled trash pickup.

The street sweeping schedule may be found on the city’s website at cityofpalmdaleca.gov/StreetSweeping.

Street sweeping is a preventative measure, as we seek to reduce the risk of blocked gutters, flooding and hazardous conditions associated with uncollected debris or green waste,” Mayor Pro Tem Richard J. Loa said. “Having cars off the roads for street sweeping is vital for maintaining functional storm drains and protecting the environment and wildlife in our community.”

To ensure a smooth transition to the new enforcement efforts, city staff will conduct outreach to educate the community about the new rules. Residents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with street sweeping regulations and the ordinance creating them, approved in November, at https://bit.ly/3TX19JR to avoid inconvenience once enforcement begins.

Additional details will be released in the near future, according to city officials.

For additional street sweeping issues or concerns, residents may contact WM at (661) 947-7197.
