The City of Compton, in collaboration with the Compton 125 Historical Society, will host from 2 to 8 p.m. May 25  Compton Founders Day, an event dedicated to celebrating 136 years of rich history and vibrant community spirit. The event will be held at Dollarhide Community Center, 301 N. Tamarind Ave.

Compton Founders Day will feature a variety of attractions and activities designed to engage attendees of all ages. Highlights include a classic car display showcasing iconic vehicles from the 1920s to the 1960s, live entertainment with special performances by DJ Silky D, the first African American DJ on the West Coast, and the Dominguez High Pacific Islander Club.

Attendees will also enjoy appearances by notable guests such as Senator Steven Bradford, actor Miguel Angel Rodriguez, 2023 Grand Marshal of the Compton Christmas Parade Manny Silva with his antique bikes, Alonzo Williams from the Compton Entertainment Chamber, Latino singer Jaime Marvilla, and actress and fashion designer Gloria Villa. Officials expected to be in attendance include Compton Mayor Emma Sharif, a number of Compton councilmembers, and State Sen. Steven Bradford (35th District).

The event promises a fun-filled day with activities such as caricature drawings, a petting zoo, a decades-themed fashion show, quilting booths, and a drive-in movie. Local vendors will offer a variety of foods and goods, and educational booths hosted by the Centinela Valley Historical Society and the Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum will provide historical insights.
